Are you ready? The reader has likely already been following the news and is witnessing upheavals everywhere, from increased violence and bank failures, to threats of collapsing energy and food infrastructures, as well as potential WWIII and many other issues. It is time to carefully consider your survival strategy.

There are a great many who are telling you that you will be able to stay in your homes for months and likely never need to leave. Do not believe such rhetoric. The larger the city you live in, the more likely you’re going to be run out of your home by looters, criminals, drug gangs or others who are searching for food because they have none. Use Chicago as your example. Imagine the riots of two years ago where large portions of cities were burned down and those responsible faced no consequences. The number of law enforcement has greatly diminished and criminals have the upper hand in riot situations. Imagine if all those who rioted did so again, but this time they were armed. I agree that the best place to stay is in your home, but depending on where you live, that may not be possible, at least long term. Having assisted with the development of original DHS disaster strategies, my personal belief is that if you live in a large city, you will likely need to flee your home within 30 days (or sooner) because when the lights go out, criminals will reign.

You need to develop a survival strategy, for both urban and wilderness. Initially, it is more important than a ‘go bag’ or guns.

When people begin starving and there is little law, especially in large cities, they will seek food for their own survival. Only you can decide if you can fend off 5, 10, or more armed assailants. And if you have a wife and young children, their safety is more important than a stand you will likely not win. You need an exit strategy for this situation and don’t believe all those screaming that you’ll never need to leave your home! In a large or even smaller city, leaving will become inevitable as violence continually increases. It is like the old Kenny Rogers song:

“You got to know when to hold ‘em,

Know when to fold ‘em,

Know when to walk away,

And know when to run…”

So, you need to get out when it’s time. With help from us, you’ll know when that is. If you skip the critical time window for amenities and homely comforts, you will forfeit your life.

Initially, your survival strategy should consider, energy and food supply, first aid, a world view to keep in touch with what is happening, even geopolitics and other issues. I’ll talk more about that in the future posts. Currently, we confront continued drought around the U.S., particularly in the southwest, major storms of all kinds (like what recently happened in California), national food disruptions, energy shortages that can halt all transportation in affected areas, large natural disasters, and other failures such as banks, and more. What will be the result of these on the nation and on you? How can you prepare?

Let’s look at one current survival issue. The growing problem of food-insecurity will lead to a collapse of the food supply chain, which is already occurring. Growing droughts in the southwest, particularly those associated with the Colorado River, water issues in the southeast and all along the Mississippi River will cause cascading failures of the food supply, as well as continue to force increases in food prices. Allowing criminals to steal from big box stores is forcing 269 Walmart closings. Other big box stores will follow suit, forcing the average person to shop elsewhere, further increasing food prices, as well as shortages. How will your survival strategy counteract this? On top of this is the vulnerability of the power grid.

Are you getting the picture? One must look beyond ‘go bags’ and guns initially by developing a sound survival strategy to be able to shelter in place. We can help you do that in our courses. Yes a ‘go bag’ is important and we will help you with that as well, but let’s get to first base before you delve into that issue. I want you to be prepared, which means you are always in a state of readiness in mind and body to do your duty. I am not talking about duty to the military, I am talking about duty to your family and loved ones above all others. Next time we will talk more about such a strategy and a test to determine how well prepared you are. Be Prepared and have a great day!
